David Galbraith-My Story
From the streets of Drumchapel and Yoker in Glasgow as I was surrounded by challenges. Fighting was essential for survival as the threats of physical violence was a daily occurrence .
When I was 18 I was viciously attacked leaving me for dead or paralyzed from the neck down. I got lucky. The amazing work of the NHS saved my life performing emergency surgery and repairing the damage with over 80 stitches and staples.
Through the help of the NHS,family support, structure of martial arts and the wonders of nature I was given a second chance in life.
After this incident I dedicated my life to combat sports. I promised myself that was never going to happen again while pursuing my dream of becoming a professional fighter I aspired to do better things. I done that, travelling the world visiting many different cultures to train with various high level gyms and other pro's. I auditioned for the UFC multipile times and had a successful career with over 23 MMA fights. 17 of which were professional.
Now retired from the professional world of Mixed Martial Arts I coach kids and other fighters. I have worked with kids for 14 years through various channels including martial arts and photography. Most of the work I do with kids revolves around behavioral issues. Kids who are struggling with the school system or life in general. Understanding their's always a reason behind the behavior I take a empathetic approach. I don't use punishment based tactics and all the methods put use are to redirect and refine aggression based behaviors to give them a fighting chance in life.
I'm the Director and Head Coach at NewLife Gym (www.newlifeglasgow.com) which has been established for around 8 years now. We have a great team of coaches and fantastic facilities in the heart of Maryhill. Our work is very community driven and I take great pride in what we do.Our team of coaches have been hand picked and are home grown each specializing in their own discipline.
